I am a supporter of Hillary Clinton and have been a very active Democrat for the last 25 years. I've noticed over the last few weeks, a hardening among Hillary supporters towards Barack Obama. Many may not believe this, but up until a few weeks ago, many of us would have supported Obama but are having second thoughts. I do not want John McCain to be our next President, so I wanted to share my thoughts on how we could stem some of this feeling on the Hillary side of things (I can't speak for Obama supporters and what their needs would be) so we could begin, on our own, to heal this divisiveness.
Let me say that first of all, the super delegates have a specific purpose, as do primaries and caucuses in determining our nominee, there is no moral superiority among the three. There is no less weight given to caucuses that represent the will of tens of thousands of voters versus primaries which often represent hundreds of thousands of voters, so why should those combined methods of electing the nominee be given greater weight than the super delegates. I believe they shouldn't and that the media, the pundits and some of our Democratic leaders have to stop acting like the SDs would be helping either candidate steal the election. The SDs must do what they feel will ensure a Democrat is elected, and both candidates will need SDs.
Obama supporters need to stop calling for Hillary Clinton to step down (aside from the fact that she won't, it would go a long way to quell our anger at the supporters and by extension Obama). Let's have the remaining primaries and Obama can win or lose them according to the voters and we can see where we stand. Stop talking about the math, because as noted above, neither will make it and the SDs will tip the balance.
Start calling for revotes in Michigan and Florida. Avid Hillary supporters will not be able to comfortably support Obama if Michigan and Florida votes do not count, either as they are (which I understand Obama can't have), or with revotes. We're Democrats, we are supposed to want people to vote. Let's get together and let it happen, and the winner will be the winner.
Lastly, if Obama's campaign would stop calling Hillary Clinton a liar every single day, it would go a long way. Maybe after all of that, we can come together, to support Obama if he successfully finishes these contests and becomes our nominee.
